Get ready to party! Sublime with Rome will be redefine Saint Paddy's for ever more...
Over twenty years after forming legendary ska-punk band Sublime, band co-founder/bass player Eric Wilson met another singer/guitarist that would deeply affect his life. That musician – his junior by nearly two decades - was 20-year-old Rome Ramirez. In Wilson’s own words, “this kid could play guitar like a mofo and he’s got a platinum voice.” Incidentally, Wilson had previously reserved that same description for his former Sublime bandmate, the late Bradley Nowell... Virginia Coalition is a band that has made its reputation with the blazing energy of its live shows and ability to play almost any style of music. They’ve blended their diverse influences into asound all their own with a maturity and attention to detail that shines on every track. The band has become favorite sons of the DMV, putting on roof-blowing shows at DC's famous 9:30 Club. The band’s core members - Andy Poliakoff, lead vocals, guitar; Paul Ottinger, keyboards, percussion, guitar, vocals and Jarrett Nicolay, bass, guitar, banjo, vocals – have always delighted fans with their ability to confound expectations. On previous albums, their songs often featured arrangements that veered off in unanticipated directions moving from funk to rock, from go go to soul. “It’s good being eclectic,” says Poliakoff, the band’s main lyricist and frequent spokesperson. “It keeps you on your toes musically, and it’s fun, but we wanted to get back to some serious songwriting. In the past few years, we were writing for the live shows, endless groove things that are far from what we wrote when we were starting out. We wanted to get back to that original creative impulse and focus on our songwriting.”
Long-time Virginia Coalition fans may be surprised by the group’s evolution from “spontaneous anything goes band” to introspective, soul-searching songwriters, but it’s a change the band welcomes. “We’ve known each other for 15 years now, and while the music is still getting better, we don’t want to keep writing the same song over and over,” Poliakoff states firmly. “I’m proud to be part of a group of three friends who have gone from the basement and garage to maturity and making music that speaks from the heart. It’s a struggle to make a great album, but we welcomed the opportunity to reinvent ourselves while staying true to the core of what we do.”
This talented duo appeared on NBC- “The Voice” - chosen by Cee Lo Green! They are very talented and fun, and coming out with a record!
How did a pair of hard-rocking brothers from the tiny town of Rixeyville, Virginia (about an hour and change outside of Washington, D.C.) become Facebook/Twitter pals with Bret Michaels, find an international fanbase and become a casebook example of independent music marketing through social media?
For Rory (24) and Tristan Shields (28), a.k.a. The Shields Brothers, a little TV reality competition called "The Voice" made a big difference. It was a short-lived fight, however. In the first of Team Cee Lo's Battle Rounds, The Shields Brothers lost a duel on "What's Love Got to Do With It" to the quirky-but-sexy Erin Martin in what many felt was a triumph of style over substance. Although Martin was clearly in over her heard vocally, her Frederick's of Hollywood-style outfit seemed to deafen Green to her performance's flaws, and the Shieledses were sent packing.
The Brothers have no regrets. In fact, they believe that losing the way they did may have helped boost their fan base. "Because it was controversial," Rory explains, "a lot of people were talking about it. We had a bunch of support from people saying you were robbed. We got messages from everywhere - Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Saudi Arabia.."
That literal world-wide following isn't concentrated enough in any one region to make touring efficient, so the duo has put its post-"Voice" efforts into a multi-faceted social media campaign. The pair create original weekly videos - many covers, but a few originals, too - for their YouTube channel, which has over 2000 subscribers and nearly 300,000 views. According to Tristan, "We put a lot of effort and care into our videos cause that's how we feel we're going to connect with our fans the most."
Hassle Merchants - “If there’s a band to get out of bed for, Hassle Merchants are it.” ~ Adam White ~ Connected Magazine
Hassle Merchants: a four-piece rock band hailing from Dublin whose drummer was once pronounced legally dead, and whose lead singer is perhaps itching to catch up with him, with his penchant for swinging from rafters, singing atop 6-foot speakers and, yes, stage-diving at festivals.
Having batted their eyelashes and hiked up their skirts since 2005, the band finally caught the eye of lauded economist, David McWilliams, this year. McWilliams is such a fan that he made the Hassle Merchants' song *Run Rabbit Run* the theme song for his web-series: Punk Economics. The series has cumulatively received over 800,000 views on Youtube.
Hassle Merchants: if your knickers aren't in a twist after a live performance, you are wearing iron undergarments.
This band is unlike any other!

The past six months have been huge for Redline Addiction. They have caused a tidal wave of talk among industry critics up and down the East Coast. It's no coincidence that On Tap Magazine, a well-known DC based publication, dubbed the group as a “buzzing band.” Don't be surprised if Redline Addiction becomes the next radio superstar in the next 12 months!
Hailing from the Washington, D.C. area, Redline Addiction is an alternative rock ensemble whose musical influences range from early 90s grunge to modern hard rock to folk. Redline Addiction signed to upstart label Counterpoint Records LLC in 2007. In March 2008, Redline Addiction released its first full-length album, Goodbye Miss Dolly, to great reviews. This record highlighted each individual member’s unique balance of talent and style, and set the tone for the band’s up-tempo and energetic live show. A year later, the band released St. Elmo’s Four, a tight collection of four hook-laden songs showcasing the band’s dynamic range. In December 2010, Redline Addiction released its second full-length record entitled Letters, an introspective acoustic-based record demonstrating the band’s depth and songwriting. Not surprisingly, this record has received rave reviews. On Tap Magazine, a well-known DC based publication, even dubbed the group as a “buzzing band.” Redline Addiction is currently recording its follow-up to Letters, which the band expects to be a heavier hitting, yet diverse, hard rock record. This record will be released on December 14, 2012. Redline Addiction continues to build on its regional following by playing various shows in recognized venues throughout the East Coast. The band is now growing on a global level thanks to its social media presence.
You name it, Dr. FU has played it. We are psyched to welcome them back for a sixth ShamrockFest appearance!
Dr. FU won the WUSA*9 "A List" competition for "Best DC-Area Band" and the South Riding Battle of the Bands. FU has been featured in the Washington Post (Editors' Pick), The Post Express (1 Top Stop), The Washingtonian (What to Do Tonight), On Tap Magazine, the DC Citypaper, Voice of the Hill, the Washington Times, The Buffalo News, and the Loudoun Times-Mirror. FU has a working relationship/sponsorship agreement with Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company (Bud Light). FU's drummer has published in Modern Drummer Magazine.
Dr. FU is a dynamic rock cover band known for its energetic stage shows and rock versions of hits from the 80's through today. FU features a collection of experienced musicians who have shared the stage with national acts such as Third Eye Blind, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Biohazard, Naughty by Nature, Rob Base, The Sugar Hill Gang, Super Diamond, White Trash, Dee Snider's Widowmaker, Sick of it All, Vicious Rumors, Agnostic Front, Wayne Newton, Arlo Guthrie, Larry Gatlin, Maynard Ferguson, Herbie Mann, and Arturo Sandoval.
Of Good Nature is a talented and fast upcoming trio, reigning from Charlotte, NC. Their original music, due to its variety, is difficult to pin into one genre. The sound is generally described as Rock/Reggae/Funk, with bursts of instrumental jam sessions that constantly demand their audiences' attention.
The group's unique, full sound derives from its creatively driven members. OGN consists of Cameron Brown (lead vocals/guitar), Joey Vachon (backup vocals/drums), and Chris Andrews (bass). The band’s original songs display a range of emotions, anywhere from high-energy and upbeat to a mellow groove you can chill to. Either way, OGN yields a reggae vibe, a catchy melody, and a funky bass-line that will force you to dance. The Trio has just released their first album, which is available at www.ofgoodnature.com.
3 AM is a hard-hitting, 4-member party band that delivers a powerful sound that will have the dance floor pumpin'. 3AM (formerly known as Full Effect) will keep you on your feet, keep you dancing, and keep you smiling with their unique, crazy light show that goes above and beyond the normal. 3AM also offers non-stop sets consisting of a distinctive blend of rock, dance, pop, Hip Hop and R&B to create a show that can't be matched. With a mix of hits spanning 3 decades you'll get a performance like none you've ever seen before.
It began as a side project of the well known D.C. based rock group Fight the Lion, but as the music came together Shawn Battle and Jake Mimikos knew they were onto something more. So they created Lost Philosophies. They wanted a sound that was laid back fun and write songs people can groove, dance, and sometimes even laugh to. So mostly they have a few beers, brainstorm and see what they can create. The majority of their music is intended for bar crowds, because thats generally who they play for, but it translates well to large stages (such as Shamrockfest 2013). Armed with only two vocals, a guitar, and a djembe, but still able to create one of the more entertaining shows the area has seen. A few singles have been released via Facebook, but an EP is also in the works at their very own home studio. Chances are you'll be able to see them at a local bar or location near you very soon, if you haven't already that is. If you do, come say hello and maybe they'll buy you a beer!
Here is what some of leaders in the entertainment industry are saying:
“National ShamrockFest is Washington DC’s greatest festival, hands down!”
“ShamrockFest… America’s biggest Saint Patrick’s Day party…”
“…Shamrock Festival is one of the best live music festivals in the United States”
